Akademi Menara Gading is a program organized by Yayasan Al-Sultan Abdullah (YASA), a foundation previously known as Yayasan Istana Abdulaziz (YIA) and established on the 11th of September 1996 at Istana Abdulaziz, Kuantan, Pahang. The patrons are His Royal Highness the Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVI, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah and Her Royal Highness the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Hajjah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Binti Almarhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj. The main objective of YASA’s establishment is to contribute towards both the prosperity of the Ummah and the religion of Islam. Among YASA’s activities are holding welfare and community programs such as Islamic kindergartens and fardhu ain classes, donating and building mosques as well as establishing hemodialysis welfare centers. Akademi Menara Gading, YASA’s signature and largest program is the brainchild of His Majesty the King to help underprivileged families through educational excellence. The AMG program adopts a long-term, comprehensive educational approach using 12 main modules collectively known as the Multiple- Integrated- Intervention Module – AMG. This module combines academic elements encompassing learning skills as well as soft skills like communication, leadership, thinking skills and creativity. Through this module, elements concerning spirituality, self-discipline and ethics are also inculcated. In addition, during the AMG program, students have the opportunity to interact with successful role models from various sector; these role models serve as sources of inspiration and motivation for the students to pursue their academic goals and dreams. The entire program is implemented in various forms such as through community service and mobility programs at universities locally and internationally. It takes place in locations like boarding schools and military camps to give students exposure to different academic settings.
The Multiple Integrated-Intervention Module – AMG is an education program conducted in a “guided-survival” mode with the aim of developing AMG participants that will excel holistically. The program trains students during their Form Four and Form 5 schooling years to ensure that they achieve excellent results in their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations and subsequently, enable them to pursue their studies at local or international universities. With their university qualifications, it is the hope that students can build a bright career for themselves, become role models for future youth, and help their families lead better lives.
A collaborative program between YASA and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, AMG was developed in 1999 and has been implemented for over two decades. The program has successfully recruited and produced 10 cohorts of successful alumni. It has transformed the lives of over a 1000 underprivileged students, orphans and Orang Asli students from rural areas throughout Pahang by enabling them to pursue their dreams at the tertiary level.
To date, many of the alumni have established solid careers in the public, corporate and professional sectors. The strong support of AMG alumni is also instrumental in assisting various AMG activities as well as providing educational community services to underprivileged families from all over Pahang.
